Jessica I. Marschall, CPA, ISA AM, President & CEO TGMI, GM-ESG, Probity Appraisal Group and MAS LLC
Founded five years ago by Jessica I. Marschall, CPA, ISA AM, Probity Appraisal Group was created to meet a growing need for credible, defensible, and well-documented personal property valuations. The name Probity means integrity and adherence to the highest principles of conduct. Whether appraising reclaimed lumber or Rembrandt paintings, these standards define every engagement.
Along with Probity Appraisal Group, Jessica is President & CEO of MAS LLC, her tax consultancy of 26 years, The Green Mission Inc., producing IRS Qualified Appraisals to substantiate donations of building materials and other construction-related property, and GM-ESG, a full service corporate decommission and asset valuation and ESG reporting firm.
Comprehensive Personal Property Appraisal Services
Probity provides a full spectrum of appraisal services to individuals, families, estates, and institutions, including:
• Charitable contribution appraisals for donations of art, antiques, collectibles, and furnishings to museums, universities, and nonprofits.
• Insurance appraisals establishing replacement value for fine art, jewelry, collections, and household contents.
• Estate and probate valuations supporting equitable distribution and tax basis determinations.
• Damage and loss assessments for insurance claims related to fire, flood, or theft.
• Divorce and dissolution appraisals offering neutral, well-supported valuations for asset division.
• Fair market value determinations for tax planning, gifting strategies, and legal matters.
Many clients engage both Probity Appraisal Group and The Green Mission Inc., which provides deconstruction appraisals and reclaimed material valuations for charitable contribution and sustainability reporting. This synergy allows clients to manage all aspects of their donation or estate needs with one unified, professional standard of compliance and documentation.
Rigorous Training and Professional Excellence
Jessica’s path into appraisal practice reflects her long-standing commitment to education and professional integrity. She has completed full programs of study with three major appraisal organizations, a distinction few appraisers share:
• Appraisers Association of America (AAA): Graduate of the Certified Appraiser of Personal Property (CASP) program, a multi-year curriculum emphasizing research methodology, appraisal theory, USPAP compliance, and valuation of diverse property categories.
• American Society of Appraisers (ASA): Completion of all foundational coursework covering value theory, research methodology, and ethics. Active member of the ASA DC Chapter, where she participates in continuing education and peer collaboration.
• International Society of Appraisers (ISA): Accredited Member (ISA AM) designation, recognized by the IRS under §170(f)(11)(E) as qualifying to prepare appraisals for charitable contributions.
Her education is complemented by specialized workshops on furniture identification, gemology, art market analysis, insurance best practices, and emerging digital asset valuation. This breadth of study, paired with her CPA background, ensures that each appraisal is conducted with technical precision and full regulatory compliance, along with her undergraduate degree from University of Virginia and Masters in Accounting from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Synergy: Where Tax Expertise Meets Appraisal Science
What truly differentiates Probity is the integration of tax advisory expertise with appraisal methodology. Jessica’s 26 years as a CPA bring quantitative rigor and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements to each valuation.
Probity appraisals are supported by market data analysis, including means, medians, and ranges to identify anomalies, and by defensible reasoning rooted in IRS standards. Every report is written with the same discipline as a tax analysis: assumptions are transparent, data sources are cited, and conclusions are clearly derived. This standard of care ensures that appraisals produced by Probity withstand professional and IRS scrutiny alike.
Probity’s client service model reflects Jessica’s tax practice values: meeting deadlines, anticipating client needs, and coordinating seamlessly with CPAs, attorneys, and estate planners. The result is an appraisal process that is efficient, reliable, and aligned with broader financial goals.
Building a Network of Specialized Expertise
Probity’s strength also lies in collaboration. Jessica has cultivated an extensive network of specialists in fine art, American furniture, Asian decorative arts, jewelry, manuscripts, vehicles, and more. This network allows Probity to deliver multi-disciplinary appraisals for complex estates and collections, combining focused expertise with cohesive reporting standards.
The firm’s internal review process promotes ongoing quality control, and collaboration among peers ensures each report meets the highest professional standards. This culture of shared expertise and continuing education keeps Probity’s team and its clients at the forefront of an evolving marketplace.
Growing Team, Shared Vision
As the firm expands, Probity Appraisal Group proudly welcomes Doug Bort and Ashley Innes (née Crawford), both of whom bring exceptional analytical and methodological strengths. Doug’s background in research-intensive valuation complements Ashley’s detailed knowledge of USPAP compliance and decorative arts appraisal. Together, they embody Probity’s commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and client-focused service.
The Vision Ahead
Probity’s growth is guided by a clear principle: bring tax consultancy standards of precision, efficiency, and accountability to personal property appraisal. Every report reflects measurable analysis, clearly supported conclusions, and disciplined delivery timelines.
The firm’s expansion builds on the foundation of four integrated practices, MAS LLC, The Green Mission Inc., GM-ESG, and Probity Appraisal Group, each rooted in technical excellence and client trust. While The Green Mission and GM-ESG continue serving the sustainability and deconstruction sectors, Probity remains the dedicated arm for fine art, antiques, furnishings, and charitable contribution valuations that require the highest level of defensibility and precision.
Raising the Bar for the Appraisal Industry
In an era of increasing IRS scrutiny and rising professional standards, Probity Appraisal Group exemplifies what the appraisal profession needs most: disciplined methodology, clear documentation, and deep regulatory understanding. The firm’s reports meet USPAP and IRS standards and the higher expectation of integrity that defines true professional service.
